New domain and hosting

As I mentioned earlier we have had a bit of a facelift around here. As of today osakanyc.com is active. kitzke.com will be around until the end of July and will redirct you here. Update your bookmarks / links / contact info what-have-you (`s/kitzke.com/osakanyc.com/g`). This applies to email addresses as well.

In the process we have also moved to a new hosting provider, Aetheri Hosting. Hostrocket was not bad, but I know the guys who run Aetheri and they are a class act, so if you’re in the market, add them to your short list.

Edit 01/22/07: I take that back, see here.

Ok, ok… it’s a blog :(

Well I’ve bit the bullet and finally admitted this site is a “blog”. I really hate that word and had been avoiding looking at any of the blogging engines to power the site, sticking to CMS packages such as postNuke and the most recent Mambo.

Recently however, Sue has expressed interest in putting stuff online. While Mambo was nice for me, it just wasn’t “easy” enough that I thought sue would be confortable using it. I don’t think this was really a fault of Mambo, but more that I am running a blog (whether I like it or not) and was trying to shoehorn it into a full blown CMS.

In case you haven’t guessed, I’m no longer using Mambo. I have switched to Wordpress. The conversion made is painfully evident that this is indeed a bloggish site, as it was completely painless to get setup the way I wanted.

Anyway it is what it is. You may also notice that the site has a different name (at least in the header). kitzke.com is expiring, and I’ve gotten sick of constantly explaining to people what it means. Why OsakaNYC then? Easy: Sue is from Osaka, we live in NYC, and this is our space (plus it was the only decent name that wasn’t taken).

The URL switch will occur over the weekend and kitzke.com will continue to work until mid-June.

Where is the www?

A post on [Ars](http://episteme.arstechnica.com) led me to [hansers site](http://rianjs.net). While there I read his post on the `www.` prefix.

>Back when the web was becoming popular, www was sometimes needed to point to the part of the domain where the content was available for anyone to see. Since then, however, this has become unnecessary. Typing www before a domain name is a superfluous waste of time.

Well I took his advice and kitzke.com is now a Class B domain. Plus it fixes a bug where FCKedit would not load if it was setup for www.kitzke.com and the user had kitzke.com in thier URL.
