Relay Computer

Aside from the fact that I read this as Harry Potter’s Relay Computer, Harry Porter’s Relay Computer is a pretty sweet hack.

Real product paid for with fake money

I’ve been a MMO game addict in the past (Tylor has put a damper on that, but the seeds of the addiciton are still there), and I’ve always found the economic analysis of these virtual worlds interesting. These virtual worlds are real economies, and ever since the firest person sold a character of item on ebay they interact with the resl of the world, and it’s only getting more official. The latest development is particularily interesting, since it breaks the real/virtual barrier in such a clear way. SLBoutique, which I gather has sold virtual items for Second Life (haven’t played it) up until this point, has put up for sale it’s first real world item.

Baring any legal restriction (and I’m sure that would only dampen the market), I’m sure we’ll be seeing more of this type of thing.

Poor Man’s Camera Tripod

Last year when I bought my camera at Yodobashi in Osaka, they threw in a free gadget that screws into the tripod mount and attaches to the top of a sode (or green tea) bottle, effectively turning said bottle into a quick and dirty tripod. Look like someone is now selling this for $20.

Personally, I said “hunh, nifty” and tossed it in a drawer somwhere and use my mini=tripod.
